Italia Autosport are excited to offer for sale this beautifully restored Mercedes Benz 280 SL Pagoda. This car was supplied new in March 1969 by Mercedes Benz Brentford to its original owner who specified it with Automatic transmission and Power Steering. This car has detailed records of maintenance going back to 1988. We have 2 full files and a CD covering all works carried out since 1988. These records include service, maintenance and restoration detail. In 2011 it was shipped to Stuttgart where its bodyshell was treated to a chemical strip, e-coat application and the addition of new rust protection. The quantity of invoices in the 2 files suggest that this car has never had any expense spared in its upkeep. Today it presents beautifully both aesthetically and technically. The Pagoda was one of the most technically advanced cars of the 60’s benefiting from Power Steering and a silky smooth automatic transmission. Coupled with the torque delivered by the 2778cc inline 6 cylinder engine, it is effortlessly exhilarating.
The Mercedes-Benz 280SL background - known as the “Pagoda” because of its distinctively shaped, slightly concave hardtop roof, is one of the most iconic models produced by Mercedes-Benz. The Pagoda SL series, spanning from 1963 to 1971, included the 230SL, 250SL, and ultimately the 280SL, which was manufactured from 1967 to 1971.
Development and Features:
Origins: The Pagoda models were designed by Paul Bracq and Blažej Kraječ. They were meant to replace the 190SL and the 300SL, targeting a niche market for sports cars that offered both performance and luxury.
Design
The 280SL, like its predecessors, was characterized by clean, sophisticated lines and advanced engineering. The “Pagoda” nickname came from the hardtop’s unique design, which offered improved rigidity and safety, reflecting Mercedes-Benz’s emphasis on passenger protection.
Engine and Performance
The 280SL was equipped with an inline-six, 2. 8-liter engine, delivering approximately 168 horsepower. It was known for its smooth power delivery and refined performance. The car was available with a four-speed manual transmission as standard, with a four-speed automatic being an option.
Innovations
The 280SL, like all Pagoda models, featured the advanced safety features of its time, including crumple zones and multi-stage door locks. It combined luxury with practicality, providing open-air driving enjoyment without sacrificing comfort.
This model was a huge success in the 1960’s and the 280 SL was the flagship. This model earned a distinguished following and owners included many celebrities of that era including Charlton Heston, Sir Sterling Moss, Sophia Loren and Princess Grace of Monaco.
Legacy and Collectability:
Today, the Mercedes-Benz 280SL holds a prestigious place among classic car enthusiasts. Its combination of timeless design, robust engineering, and rich cultural heritage has all contributed to its desirability. Restored and well-maintained examples of the 280SL are prized collectibles, often fetching considerable sums in auctions and private sales.
The 280SL remains a highlight in Mercedes-Benz’s storied history, symbolizing the marriage of elegance and innovation that the brand is known for. Its enduring legacy is maintained by collectors and clubs around the world, ensuring the Pagoda will be celebrated for generations to come.
Lancia Fulvia 1600 Sport Zagato
UK supplied – Lancia Derby
Registered 19 April 1972
5 Owners
Mileage 21052
Italia Autosport are excited to present this wonderfully restored Lancia Fulvia 1600 Sport Zagato. Registered as new in Derby UK and with only 5 owners over the last 53 years. The first owner keeping it for 36 years. During his ownership in 1997, it travelled to Italy to be fully restored and is presented today in its original colour Rosso San Siro.
The owner of Italia Autosport - John Pogson started his career a ‘long time ago’ as a mechanic at a Lancia Main Dealer. He worked on many many Lancia at that time and fell in love with the Fulvia HF’s. He has personally owned many including Francesco de Virgello’s HF. After his assessment of this car, it has been pronounced that this is a technically exceptional and untampered with survivor. John has a great affection for this car so if you encounter him during your enquiry make sure you bring your flask and sandwiches.
The Zagato Sport evolved from the famous championship winning Fulvia coupe of that time. Lancia commissioned the design house Zagato to develop a car that was lighter, more aerodynamic and styled in a way that would draw the attention of the 1960’s most discerning car enthusiast. This design also reduced weight and improved aerodynamics. These factors combined gave it a competitive edge in events like the Targa Florio and 12 Hours of Sebring.
Although the Fulvia Coupé HF became the dominant rally car, the Fulvia Sport Zagato was better suited for track racing. The aerodynamic fastback body gave it an edge in high-speed sections compared to the standard Fulvia Coupe. It was particularly effective in wet conditions where its Front Wheel Drive layout provided superior grip.
The 1584cc 7 degree V4 engine is currently set up to show the intake trumpets which are beautifully designed. This configuration produces an engine note that is purposefully resonant. The engine revs eagerly up to 6, 500 rpm, and at high RPMs, it delivers an urgent, race-car-like wail rather than a deep roar.
The original airbox is available and will be supplied fitted or not at the next owners request.
Although the pictures show the car without bumpers. It will be sold with the front bumper and rear quarter bumpers fitted or not at the buyers request.
This car has won many awards for presentation quality at the Lancia AGM during it’s life.

This is a unique opportunity to purchase and own one of the three Ferrari’s early factory turbo cars. 288 GTO - F40 - 208 Turbo. Not only that, but this example, with its incredible low kilometres is a totally unrestored original car with its first paint still intact. It looks more like a 3 -year-old car, not 40 years! As of January this year as this car turned 40 years old it is now classed as a historic vehicle so is now exempt from U. K. road tax. How cool is it to say that it’s a 2 litre Ferrari V8 Turbo engine fitted with an early single KKK turbo?! (Interesting fact the KKK turbo’s of that were fitted to formula cars). The suspension geometry has also been reset to John Pogson’s secret measurements. The purchase price will include the 208 Turbo fitted Schedoni luggage. This car is a once in a lifetime find, not a badly restored car with high mileage! So fastidious is the preparation on this car, John’s brief was to dismantle the engine, gearbox and differential and clean all internal components including the teeth of the gears. It is a second opportunity to purchase a virtually brand-new Ferrari that is un-untampered with. Fully serviced and belted and prepared by John Pogson of Italia Autosport. There is nothing left to do but drive it! Or put it in a museum…
Italia Autosport are proud to offer to market this beautiful and immaculate Ferrari F430 Coupe with a Manual Gearbox. This is an incredibly rare car and to find one is this condition is very unusual indeed. With only 3 owners and comprehensive service history this feels like a one off opportunity to attain what a low mileage, highly collectable modern classic Ferrari.
Research suggests that only 128 Manual F430 Coupes were sold in the UK. The manual transmission made up between 5 and 10% of overall production, the rest being the F1 transmission.
Market appetite due to rarity and its drivability, now sees the Manual as the model to buy. The experience of driving this car is refined yet analogue, enabling the driver to tune into the car and explore every bit of it’s performance potential, whilst remaining completely in command.
This example is presented in Fully PPF protected Argento Nurburgring with a Nero Leather interior perfectly complimented with Carbon Sports Seats that are in immaculate condition. Pre-Delivery polythene is still to be seen in areas around the seat floor.
The last complete service, including additional work refinishing ‘sticky’ window switches, and replacing a micro switch to the drivers door, was carried out by Italia Autosport on September 28th 2024, in preparation for going into our storage facility where it has received monthly storage checks.
This car was a ‘keeper’ for it’s current owner and is now being offered for sale very reluctantly as he is no longer able to drive due to illness.
